carp's diem

Old Huciuk has been living with his family in a social housing, with any conveniences. His three daughters lived in one chamber, and he shared the other one with his wife and three sons. Rysiek was the oldest of them. He was nearly seventeen years old, and had  really big, fat record in a local police station. Anyway, the whole Huciuk’s family was under constant observation of police and the social welfare. Especially now, before Christmas.

You might say a lot about Huciuk’s, but not a single, bad word about their attachment to polish tradition. Christmas has always been a festivity, like this year and in spite of them having no money from social welfare. The day before Christmas*, Huciuk’s mother has been baking cakes, using flour, given by someone from Caritas, there was a Christmas tree, standing in the corner, resected in the middle night, at the biggest square, near to City Hall, glittering thousands of lights, stolen from school by Huciuk’s daughters, fed with the power connected illegally. Atmosphere was quite Christmassy, and then old Huciuk ordered Rysiek to kill the carp**.

Stanislaw Carp was 57 years old and he died tragically.

*Christmas starts a day before, in Poland. The most important in it is a festive supper on 24th of December.
** Carp is an oily fish, served traditionally on a supper, the day before Christmas.
